A Slice of My day =

After I bade Hugo farewell, I hopped on a bus to go to a thrift store which the wonderful Nathan Scott had located for me. (Thanks Nathan, my thrifty friend!)  Because of an accident, the bus had to take a slight detour, but then dropped me off at the stop which was *directly* in front of the store.  Would you like to guess what I was on a mission for?

Was it...?

   A) a skillet
   B) a poncho
   C) chopsticks
   D) coat hangers

I continued to the public library where I returned a memoir that I had finished reading yesterday.  After placing two books on hold, logging onto a computer, checking my email, giving the guy next to me a look of disapproval because his speaker volume was entirely too loud and catching up on some news, I went to the Wednesday outdoor market which is held just outside the front door. There are breads, vegetables, cheeses, olives, chocolates, Hungarian pizzas, sauces, Greek treats, wine, macaroons, yogurt, meats, spices, hot teas.  It is indeed one of the most varied markets I've ever been to.  Thankfully, it isn't huge and one can meander through the aisles with ease.  I purchased some tiger tomatoes and returned home to prepare some pasta.

As I made my simple meal, I was able to say goodnight to Luciana and Mom on video chat.  Luciana asked again about the spiders that live here.  (so far, every time I've spoken with her, she asks me to tell her about the the spiders)  Do we have an entomologist on our hands?!  After eating, I watched one part of Planet Earth which highlights tigers--the mammals, not the tomatoes.

Hugo should be on his way home from the university, for we have a coffee date planned.  I will prepare a strong brew and serve some of the many treats we have here: Cadbury's Fruit & Nut chocolate and Kit-Kat (brought home last night by Hugo who knows how much I adore those); Lady Finger bananas (a variety that I've never seen in the US due to the huge demand for the  "Chiquita-style" Cavendish bananas) and Tim Tam Mint Crisp biscuits/cookies.  I am becoming entirely too fond of all Tim Tam varieties.  Last week, as I pondered which ones to purchase, a friendly Aussie told me that I should get the original chocolate ones.  I raised an eyebrow and said "oh, yeah?"  He then explained the best way to eat them: you bite off a tiny bit of one corner of the rectangular deliciousness and then you bite off the opposite corner.  Using the biscuit/cookie as a straw (yes, a straw), you drink your coffee/hot cocoa/milk through it.  The man told me that coffee was the best.  As the hot liquid gets forced through the Tim Tam, it becomes soft and...my mouth is watering just thinking of it.  It is what we would call a guilty pleasure.  Very guilty.

Alas, I must go.  À bientôt...

++++last night, i was told that poker was indeed called "poker"; it's the slot machines and video gaming that is called "pokie".  i will go gamble and find out for myself.+++

  2. I guessed hangers right away, having been in exactly that state of having moved. When traveling a long way as you and Hugo did, why pack hangers or any other inexpensive-but-necessary item you can acquire when you arrive!

Your blogs are wonderful to read, Benjie. Thanks for keeping us informed.
